Elden Ring Nightreign demo is coming real soon, but you have to sign up first

FromSoftware can’t stop, won’t stop. There’s more Elden Ring on the way, right on the heels of the mammoth Shadow of the Erdtree DLC this year. The next expansion, Elden Ring: Nightreign, is of a slightly different flavor, as it’s a standalone multiplayer mode that involves taking on bosses and other enemies, and you’ll be able to play it sooner than you might think.

The advent of Elden Ring: Nightreign has come as a shock. Shadow of the Erdtree brought so much to the soulslike game, it seemed unlikely we’d see another substantial addition for some time. Yet, here we are, with something totally leftfield from the purveyors of frustration aand delight at FromSoftware.

Nightreign is a spin-off multiplayer game where you can form a party of up to three others to take on the challenges that lay ahead. Expect more of the usual in that regard – large monsters and knights and gods that all have a particular distaste for you and whoever you’re with. We don’t know when it’s out just yet, but the first playtest has been revealed.

The Elden Ring: Nightreign network test starts in February 2025, and sign ups open on January 10. Registration will happen on the official site.

A sliver of the co-op game will be made available to lucky players who get into the beta, allowing them to roadtest connectivity features and see what some of these encounters are like. The upcoming PC game’s first trailer didn’t give a huge amount away, but it has some fascinating clues about what’s going on.

Eagle-eyed FromSoft aficionados have spotted a glimpse of The Nameless King from Dark Souls 3, for instance. What does that mean? Damned if I know, but I’m very keen to find out. We’ll just have to wait and see when the mode comes out fully.
